27th Annual Preservation Symposium
Preserv[AI]tion
Date: February 13-14, 2026
Location: ARCB 101, Geren Auditorium
Rationale
The Texas A&M Center for Heritage Conservation is honored to host the 27th Annual Historic Preservation Symposium, Preserv[AI]tion.
This year’s symposium will examine the potential of the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of heritage conservation, offering a timely forum for professionals, scholars, students, and members of the public to engage in substantive dialogue about the evolving future of our built heritage.
As cities confront mounting challenges, the imperative to safeguard heritage calls for innovative approaches that honor tradition while embracing contemporary tools. This year’s program will illuminate how AI is reshaping the ways we document, interpret, and protect historic sites and structures. From 3D reconstructions of at-risk landmarks to machine learning applications for post-disaster assessment, the symposium will highlight emerging technologies that are redefining preservation practice.
Through a series of expert-led presentations and case studies, participants will gain insight into both the promise and complexity of integrating AI into conservation workflows. Topics will include drone-assisted façade restoration, robotic systems for archaeological stewardship, and data-driven strategies for heritage management. These advancements not only enhance precision and efficiency but also invite new ways of understanding and sustaining heritage for future generations.
The symposium will cultivate a collegial and interdisciplinary environment, welcoming perspectives from local, national, and international contributors.
We warmly invite you to join us for this important gathering, and your perspectives will enrich the conversation. Together, we will discuss the current and future impacts of artificial intelligence and allied technologies, and their challenges, on built heritage to ensure its resilience in the long run.
