Catherine Vera

Catherine Vera, Austin Region Co-Director, is a Registered Architect in Texas and New York with degrees in Architecture and Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. She has been practicing for 18 years with extensive experience in building envelope design and rehabilitation.  She has developed projects across a wide range of scales and building types — from large-scale gut renovations and full facade replacements to those with targeted exterior restorations. Over half of her project experience has been focused on the rehabilitation of existing buildings in the public and private higher education sector; including projects for North Carolina State University, Morehouse School of Medicine, Stony Brook University, LaGuardia Community College, and New York University. Catherine has been involved across all project phases, from pre-schematic design through construction administration, and has hands-on experience reviewing shop drawings, coordinating with fabricators, and managing complex multi-phase construction in fully occupied buildings. She is skilled at navigating the technical challenges inherent to existing structures and has enjoyed expanding her technical skills with more recent opportunities working on true preservation projects. She enjoys the intersection of design, building performance, historical context, storytelling, and technical rigor that preservation projects demand.
