Conor Herterich

East Texas Regional Director

Conor Herterich serves as the Northeast Texas Program Officer at Preservation Texas where he engages directly with members and stakeholders in the 41 county region. He also manages the Rural African-American Heritage Grant Program and other projects as needed.

Conor transitioned from a five-year career as a high school social studies teacher to earn a master’s degree in Public History from SFASU. He subsequently served as the Historic Preservation Officer in Bloomington, Indiana where he facilitated local preservation ordinances and conducted design reviews for numerous projects impacting historic buildings across twelve local historic districts. His professional journey also includes roles in cultural resource management, where he conducted numerous assessments for National Register eligibility and provided consulting services for projects involving culturally significant properties under Programmatic Agreements.

After spending a summer in southeastern Alaska with HistoriCorps restoring historic buildings in the Tongass National Forest, Conor developed a passion for hands-on preservation, vernacular architecture, and traditional construction methods–which he continues to grow.
